Don’t hold back from applying for a teacher training programme because of your subject knowledge. You may still be able to train to teach these subjects (and be eligible for the bursaries they attract) by building up or refreshing your existing knowledge with a Subject Knowledge Enhancement programme. Those SKE subjects being offered by the University of Reading can be found at http://www.reading.ac.uk/education/pg-taught/ioe-SKEprogramme.aspx and information from the DfE is at https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/subject-knowledge-enhancement-ske-courses.
Working in two Federation schools, all of which are highly regarded in the local area, trainees are provided with a mentor in school as well as with a university tutor, both of whom work closely with trainees to ensure learning is rapid and maximum progress is made. Combined with the professional training which is provided both at school and at university, we like to think that a training place with the Wokingham Federation is second to none in the country.
For our Business Studies and computing courses, we are also proud of our relationship with Teach SouthEast http://www.teachsoutheast.co.uk/ which provides high quality bespoke teacher training in the South East.
The Wokingham Federation offers two School Direct programmes, a fee paying route, which often attracts a substantial bursary, and a salaried route which is only available for English.
Details of bursaries can be found at Get Into Teaching – Explore My Options.
Our offer now includes a School Direct route into teaching for potential primary school teachers. Please see the video below for an introduction to the programme.
